Toyosi Phillips
Toyosi Phillips is a producer, writer and TV personality. She produced and hosted “The Gist with Toyosi Phillips”, an entertainment show on SaharaTV for two seasons and co-hosted Sahara FM's weekly radio show from 2014 to 2015. She's currently studying Producing at the New York Film Academy and just successfully produced her first short film "Never Far Away". She is also a contributor for one of Africa’s leading entertainment and lifestyle websites, Bellanaija.com.
Phillips was born in the mid 80’s in Lagos, Nigeria. She attended Corona Nursery and Primary School, Victoria Island, Lagos; Queens College (Secondary School) Yaba, Lagos; Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State for her Bachelor’s degree, graduating with a 2:1 in Economics before obtaining a Masters degree in Economic Development and Policy Analysis at the University of Nottingham, England in 2011.
After moving back to Nigeria from England, she worked for one of the country’s leading commercial banks as an Internal Auditor. 2 years later, acknowledging that her passion lay in the arts, she moved to New York City and obtained a diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the New York Film Academy. While at NYFA, Phillips covered several events including the city’s reaction to the United Nations Annual General Meeting and the New York City Bring Back Our Girls’ Protest.
She has had several stints at acting; playing the role of Irene, a spoilt Nigerian senator’s daughter living in New York in the web series Assorted Meat and also playing a minor role in Never Far Away; a short film written, produced and directed by her.
She has made several TV and radio show appearances including Ndani TV’s Real Talk, Spice TV’s Spice Most and Silverbird Radio’s Sundays with Omalicha and has also been featured in different publications including Blanck Magazine, IWantHerJob.com and Diaspora Quarterly Magazine.
She’s a member of the New York Women in Film and TV Association as well as the National Association of Black Journalists.
She is also a Sickle Cell Advocate and supporter of the National Blood Transfusion Service (Nigeria) and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America; donating blood as often as she can.
